2020 Topps Chrome Update Mega Box (Box 3)

Here it is...the third and final box. Will this complete the trifecta of duds?

Pack 1

Already off to a good start. Nico Hoerner rookie...plus no dupes.

Pack 2

Nothing to write home about here.

Pack 3

The second of the two Bryce Harper cards in the set and the Jesus Luzardo rookie.

Pack 4

Mike Schmidt insert.

Pack 5

Trent Grisham rookie.

Pack 6

Gavin Lux insert.

Pack 7

The last pack (believe it or not) is where it finally starts to get good. Just pulling the Bo Bichette rookie would make it a fantastic pack. These are cards 1, 3 and 4...card 2 was quite surprising.

Randy Arozarena rookie. But not the base card...

...it is the gold refractor version...numbered 03/50. I did not see any of these listed on eBay, however Beckett lists it at $400. (I do know that means absolutely nothing.)

So that last pack was better than anything in the box prior, plus the previous 2 boxes. I'll be putting up a want list for this set soon, unfortunately I still need a lot of the bigger dollar cards.

2020 Topps Chrome Update Mega Box (Part 2)

Here's my second stab at getting a decent box.

Pack 1

The first pack has two duplicates from the first box. It also has one of the bigger rookies in the set (Kyle Lewis).

Pack 2

Mike Trout, Mike Piazza and 2 more dupes.

Pack 3

2 duplicates in this pack as well. I wonder if that will be par for the course in this box.

Pack 4

Aristides Aquino rookie, Ozzie Albies insert...and 2 more dupes.

Pack 5

More of the same.

Pack 6

Only 1 dupe in this pack.

Pack 7

Finally, a pack without any dupes.

There are 28 cards per box. 11 of them were duplicates. That's 39%.

This box had a couple of good cards, so it was better than the first but it still qualifies as a "dud". I have one box left to post and I'll give you a little spoiler...it is better than the first two.

2020 Topps Update Chrome Mega Box (Box 1)

During the last weeks of 2020 and the first couple of months of 2021 I was quite fortunate to find some boxes of cards at either Target or Walmart. That has since pretty much dried up (although I did see a bunch of 2021 Series 1 hangers at Target today but I don't need anymore), but before that I happened to find a shelf of 2020 Topps Update Chrome Boxes...and they were $19.99! I didn't know who was in the checklist, but I didn't care. I grabbed my boxes (limit of 3) and brought them home.

I'll make this three separate posts...one post for each box.

Pack 1

A decent first pack...the Alonzo being the biggest card of them.

Pack 2

First insert of the box...Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Decades Next.

Pack 3

Pack 4

The second insert of the box...a nice looking Jackie Robinson A Number's Game.

Pack 5

Nothing to see here.

Pack 6

Ken Griffey Jr. has 2 cards in this 100 card set...the All-Star card you see and a Home Run Derby card.

Pack 7

And ending with a relative whimper. Glad I only paid 20 bucks for it. I've got two more shots to counteract this yawner. Wish me luck.

The Final Cards From The Bottom Drawer

Quite some time ago, I had made a few posts about the bottom drawer of my bureau. There was stashed a bunch of cards from card shows that I hadn't posted yet. I've since gotten rid of the bureau and needed to put the cards elsewhere. So here's a post showing the rest of them off. Most were pulled out of dimeboxes (back when they were much more plentiful).

I posted them chronologically, so here is the vintage first. I'm pretty sure I paid more than a dime for the Eckersley rookie.

I already have the 2 Dale Murphy rookies but these are in better condition.

The only Kellogg's card in the group but a good one.

More 1979 Topps. I will finish this set someday.

Some 1981 Fleer, a 1982 Donruss Tom Seaver and a 1982 Topps Danny Ainge.

A 1984 Fleer Tony Gwynn and a few 1984 O-Pee-Chee and Topps.

Mostly 1985 Donruss here. I think this is the 80's set that I have the least amount of cards from.

A bunch of 1985 Fleer. I'm not sure why I needed 2 George Bells.

Some stars from 1986 Donruss and a few 1992 Bowman.

More 1992 Bowman and I believe that auto on the 1996 Leaf Signature Series Dwayne Hosey card is real.

A bunch of cards from 2016 Bowman Chrome Prospects. The others are from the 2016 Topps Archives 65th Anniversary Edition which were sold only at Walmart. A box of 15 cards plus 1 autograph cost $24.98.

I bought 5 boxes. With 15 cards in a box and only a 65 card set you would think I would have gotten pretty close to a full set but that was not the case.

Every box I bought had almost the same base cards. I even got duplicates of the autographs...2 Kent Tekulves and 2 of Dontrelle Willis plus 1 of Vern Law.

The 1981 Topps Rick Reuschel was a buyback from that set and the Tony Fernandez was numbered 20/50.

It feels good to finally get all of those posted.
