Well unless you've been under a rock for the past few months, I'm sure you've heard the news. As of 2025 Topps will no longer have the MLB license. They also only have the MLBPA license until 2023. So what does that mean for the future of baseball cards?
I have no idea...that's a long ways away.
I do know that the card market has changed quite a bit in past few years so it will be interesting to see if all the money Fanatics spent to acquire the licenses results in lower end releases being eliminated for purely high end ones.
Or with the hype around NFT's, does it all go digital?
One thing is for certain though, if I decide that the new round of baseball cards isn't for me, there will be plenty of older sets that I can finally attempt to finish.
One of the things I will always enjoy buying irregardless of who's making the cards are 1500 count boxes of "commons" for less than 10 bucks. What's in this one? Let's see...
2018 Topps Update - 59 cards. (yes, the Juan Soto Rookie Debut card pictured was 1 of the 59 cards.)
2018 Topps Gypsy Queen - 87 cards.
2018 Topps Archives - 73 cards.
2018 Topps Stadium Club - 194 cards.
2012 Bowman Platinum Prospects - 35 cards.
2018 Topps WalMart Holiday - 43 cards.
2016 Topps Allen & Ginter - 43 cards.
2018 Topps Allen & Ginter - 122 cards. I was surprised to see this card included.
2018 Topps Allen & Ginter Hot Box Silver Glossy Parallels - 31 cards. I didn't even know these existed. They are exactly as described...they are glossy with a silver background behind the subject of the card. There were unannounced "hot boxes" released where all the regular base cards were swapped out with these parallels. Very cool.
2008 Topps Allen & Ginter - 93 cards.
2011 Topps Update Gold Parallels - 16 cards.
2018 Donruss - 92 cards.
I checked Omar Beltre's Wikipedia page to see if he was related to Adrian but it doesn't look like it. I did find out that his Major League career lasted less than a week.
2018 Topps Heritage - 9 cards.
2021 Topps Series 1 - 105 cards.
2018 Topps Fire - 10 cards.
2020 Topps Heritage High Numbers - 109 cards.
2013 Topps Series 1 Emerald Parallels - 48 cards.
2013 Topps Update Emerald Parallels - 17 cards.
2014 Topps Series 1 - 117 cards.
2017 Topps Heritage - 87 cards.
2020 Topps Allen and Ginter - 67 cards.
