The boxes I would buy in the past had 100 loose cards and 4 packs.
Look familiar?
I had sworn off buying these, but just like Listia, after awhile I found myself there again. There were still plenty of the boxes pictured above, but there was also this:
Now this was different. Or was it? Would I be pleasantly surprised? Or would I get the same cards I always get?
There was still 100 loose cards plus 4 packs, but it was from the Fairfield Company this time, and I've bought a few of their repacks and had some moderate success. The box also boasted 5 Hall of Fame Cards (which really means nothing...a 1987 Topps Steve Carlton is a "Hall of Fame Card").
Let's look at the first part of this box, the "100 cards".

Well, the 5 Hall of Fame Cards were from the same scan of 9 cards.
Phil Niekro
John McGraw
Kirby Puckett
Nolan Ryan
George Brett
This selection of cards seems to be pretty much the same selection as the other repacks I would get from Five Below. My favorite cards out of this are the Niekro, McGraw (I tried to find more info on this card, but was unsuccessful), and the Zosky.
I also have a soft spot for the ESPN set (I have some of the football series as well), although from what I've read most people don't like it.
Strangely, I have more than 100 cards here. I think I may have combined these cards with something else.
Next post I'll break open the 4 packs. Are they the same ubiquitous packs found in all the other repack boxes that caused me to take a break from Five Below?
Or is it something different?
P.S. Don't ask me why the font changed in the middle of this post. The font looks the same in my draft, but different in the post. I've tried a bunch of things to correct it, but nothing worked.

Those dodgers you pulled were far from HOFers.
ReplyDeleteHow'd that 2008 Kerry Wood get in there? Maybe one of your extras?
