2008 Upper Deck First Edition Update

One of the things I had hoped to accomplish by blogging was trading with other bloggers. I was sure I would find other bloggers with the same problem that I have, lots of cards they don't need and not enough of the cards that they do.

So when I get close to completing a set, I'm going to post what cards I need in hopes that someone out there has what I need.

We're going to start with 2008 Upper Deck First Edition Update.

The sad part about this is that it is only a 200 card set and packs of this are everywhere. Everytime I buy a repack that consists of unopened packs, this is guaranteed to be one of them. Yet I still need 3 cards.

303 - Juston Upton (Diamondbacks)
339 - Alexei Ramirez (White Sox)
472 - Skip Schumaker (Cardinals)

If you have any of these three cards (hopefully you have all three), please leave a comment or you can email me at swingandapopup@gmail.com and let's work out a trade.

Trade With Nick From Dime Boxes

Very original title, huh? I worked overtime on that one.

But it does describe the contents of this post. Nick from the blog Dime Boxes (one of my favorite blogs by the way), mentioned a while back that he'd like to acquire some Topps Stadium Club. Now being of legal age at the time Stadium Club's first issue was released, I have to take responsibility for the superfluous amount of dupes that I have of the early 90's releases (meaning I can't blame it on being young and stupid. It won't hold up in court.).

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy Stadium Club. It was quite impressive considering what was available at the time. Putting it in perspective, take a look at a card from 1991 Stadium Club. Then compare it to Leaf, Upper Deck, Fleer and the rest the releases from 1991. Pretty groundbreaking stuff, if you ask me.

Yes I even tried to complete that monstrocity of the 900 (or 9000, I don't remember) card set of 1992 Stadium Club as well as the 893 card Score set, the 800 card Upper Deck set, etc.

I tried to collect them all!

So I sent Nick a smattering of Stadium Club. Ask and you shall receive.

In return, he sent me all this great stuff.

Here's a few of the 15 cards he sent me that I needed from 2004 Fleer Tradition.

Here's four of the six that he sent me from my 2010 Topps want list.

A trio of Topps Series II needs.

10 more crossed off of my 2012 Gypsy Queen want list.

Ditto with 2013 Topps Series 1. I only need 16 cards to finish this set. I had hoped to get it done before Series II came out, but I don't think it's going to happen.

A nice odball card featuring Tiant and Fisk from Sunoco.

I can't look at a 1977 Topps card without being happy. Especially when it's a Red Sox card.

I actually have a few of these, but I don't think I have the Yaz.

Funny, I was just reading about Rick Ferrell the other day. A lifetime .281 hitter, he hit 28 home runs and 734 runs batted in over an 18 year career. Hall of Fame numbers? Apparently so, as he was voted in by the Veterans Committee in 1984.

Tony Pena from the 1992 French's Mustard 18 card set. Bring back food issues!

I posted this card for two reasons.

First, I was a huge Canseco fan while he was with the Red Sox.

Secondly, seeing Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick reminds me of Sportscenter in the 1990's. That in turn reminds me of the ESPN baseball game I used to play on my Sega Genesis in the 1990's. I'm not afraid to admit it, but I really sucked at that game. Whenever I see Dan Patrick, I hear him say "The whiff", in my head, which I heard numerous times while playing that game.

I love the Topps American Pie sets. Don't have many cards from the releases, which I hope to remedy at some point.

As you may have noticed, more than half of my "favorites" feature players from the 70's. The '78 team was my favorite, and as a 9 year old, I had no idea about all of the turmoil that was going on during their collpase late in the season. It's interesting to read about it now and just makes the fact that they were able to win the last 8 games and tie the Yankees that much more amazing.

However, I've saved the best card for last.

Bill "Spaceman" Lee, who after seeing the Green Monster for the first time said, "Do they leave it up there during games?" Suposedly, that was how he earned his nickname.

This was before he became the leader of the "Buffalo Heads", which eventually got him traded, and now the second 1971 Topps card I have. Consequently, I've got a ways to go to finish this set.

Much appreciated, Nick! Looking forward to trading with you again!

Trading Tuesdays - Angels Edition

As I've mentioned on this blog before, one of the things I enjoy most about the blogosphere is trading with other bloggers. I don't make it to too many card shows (I've been to 1 since I started blogging back in February), and it's often times very tough to find the cards I need to complete the sets I'm working on.

I've gotten closer to some sets thanks to the trading I've done, and hopefully I've been to help other bloggers with their collecting goals as well. So I've been thinking for a while about how I can help initiate some trading with other collectors/bloggers that I may not have connected with yet. Of course, I'm certainly up for trading with collectors/bloggers that I've traded with before.

I've seen some cool ideas on a couple of blogs. I like the "trade stack" idea from Chris at Nachos Grande, and the team concept that Oscar employs at All Trade Bait, All The Time. Since I don't see myself coming up with anything ground breaking or original to accomplish this, I'm just going to offer some stuff up on the blog. While it's not a direct copy of what anybody else is doing, it does have similarities. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So every Tuesday I am going to post a collection of items representing a specific team. It will probably consist of mostly cards from that team, but it could also include a media guide, a yearbook, a pack of cards with a player from that team on the wrapper, etc.

If you are interested in it, either comment on the blog or email me at swingandapopup@gmail.com, with what you want to trade for it. No reasonable offer will be refused, however it does have to be off of my want list. I need to finish these sets! Trade me a dozen cards, trade me a hundred cards, trade me one card, but help me finish these sets!

I only have a small percentage of my "wants" uploaded. This is a huge work in process, and I am adding new want lists up weekly. I also keep track via a sidebar on my blog letting readers know what lists have been added in the past week. There are also some "junk wax" sets on there that I haven't finished. I know some of you are sitting on some '89 Score, 92 Donruss, etc., and this could be a chance to unload some of it to someone who needs it!

If nobody claims the previous weeks loot, it will be added to what I am offering the next week as well. For example, I'm starting off with a package of California/Los Angeles/Anaheim Angels. If nobody claims this package by next Tuesday, I'll offer up a second team. If someone claims it before the next Tuesday, they will win the second team I choose, plus the Angels, for whatever they want to trade me off my want list.

So here's what up for trade:

1989 Fleer Dante Bichette

2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Bobby Abreu

1994 Fleer Flair Gary DiSarcina

1990 Topps Traded Luis Polonia

1991 O-Pee-Chee Premier Junior Felix

1991 Topps Stadium Club Luis Sojo

1987 Topps Devon White

1981 Donruss Joe Rudi

1981 Donruss Jim Fregosi

1981 Fleer Jim Barr

1981 Topps Don Aase

2005 Bowman Draft Picks Dallas McPherson

2003 Fleer Platinum Adam Kennedy

1984 Topps John McNamara

1983 Topps Rob Wilfong

2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Albert Pujols

1976 Topps Dave Collins

1976 Topps Traded Bobby Bonds

1998 Pacific Crown Royale Pillars Of The Game Jim Edmonds

1993 Topps Jim Edmonds

1992 Topps Shawn Abner

1988 Topps Wally Joyner

2010 Topps Torri Hunter

2003 Fleer Platinum Jarrod Washburn

1988 Topps Mini Wally Joyner

1980 Topps Rod Carew

1990 Topps Coins Chili Davis

Now all of these cards are not "mint". Some of the olders ones may show a bit of wear, since I've had most of these since they were issued. Just wanted to be up front about it. Consequently, I'm not looking for "mint" in return, either.

So that's the first team package up for trade. If you are interested in trading for it, either leave a comment or email me at swingandapopup@gmail.com with what you wish to trade. First person to contact me wins the entire package of Angels.

I'm going to try this for a few weeks, if nothing comes out of it, I'll move on to something else.

Thanks for reading and let's trade!
