Just Walk On By

I know, I know, I should just walk on by and not be drawn to the fact that whenver I walk by a Five Below...

...I WALK BY CARDS!!!

I MUST HAVE THEM!!!

I think I do pretty well, actually. I don't buy cards every time I'm by a Five Below (that would mean I would be buying cards there five times a week since I work in the same plaza), but every now and then I find myself with this in my hand,

And while I always enjoy buying these repacks, I've been shying away from them as late because of the unecessary amount of '89 Topps contained within. I like the set, but I've completed it. I don't really need anymore.

So like most of these boxes, the loose 100 cards were pretty standard, no surprises.

Shall we look at some cards?

1993 Studio Carlos Garcia (Pirates)

1993 Pinnacle Now & Then Dennis Eckersley (A's & Indians)

1988 Topps Mini Tony Gwynn (Padres)...these are popping up everywhere now.

Also included was the usual assortment of 1987 and 1988 Topps,

1989 Donruss and 1989 Topps,

1990 Donruss and 1990 Score,

1992 Fleer and 1991 Score...

...and not one, but two 1990 Fleer Chris Hammonds.

1994 Flair David Nied (Rockies)

1995 Upper Deck SP Paul O'Neill (Yankees)

1996 Fleer Ultra RBI King Dante Bichette (Rockies)

1998 Fleer Metal Universe Albert Belle (White Sox)

1993 Topps Stadium Club Butch Henry (From the Colorado Rockies Team Set)

This was the oldest card of the bunch. I think they have a stockpile of 1981 Fleer, and they throw one of them in each of the boxes to distract me from.....

THIS!!! AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!

More 1989 Topps!!! Where the hell are they finding all of this??!!

So trudge on we must.

Are we ready???

Ok, maybe not. So at the risk of putting my dog into a cardboard frenzy, we shall begin by asking this question;

Pray tell, what glossy photo quality card depicting an outstanding American or National League rookie will be bequeathed upon yonder blogger?

Alas, it is Gary Sheffield. I actually don't have this card.

Now here are some I do.

Next we have a pack of 2008 Upper Deck First Edition Update. This is also becoming ubiquitous.

I am three cards shy of completing this set. Do I get them?

Survey says!

No! You will get none that you need and ten that you don't!

*Sigh*....let's press on.

2007 Fleer Ultra. Also becoming very common in these repacks. I don't have a want list made up, so here's what I got. Hopefully, I need all of them.

59 - Justin Verlander (Tigers)

14 - Kris Benson (Orioles)

103 - Francisco Cordero (Brewers)

167 - Barry Zito (Giants)

245 - Ryan Braun L13 (Brewers)

Not too shabby. I know I need the Braun rookie, I don't know about the other four.

Now on to the last pack.

482 - Carmelo Martinez (Padres)

423 - Dennis Lamp (Red Sox)
312 - Mike Maddux (Phillies)
671 - John Wetteland (Dodgers)
207 - Mike Scott (Astros)
153 - Gerald Perry (Braves)
629 - Vance Law (Cubs)
5 - Mickey Tettleton DK (Orioles)
697 - Mark McGwire AS (A's)

232 - John Farrell (Indians)
121 - John Smoltz (Braves)
598 - Mel Hall (Yankees)
487 - Ron Jones (Phillies)
429 - Chuck Cary (Yankees)
317 - Ron Oester (Reds)

677 - Denny Walling (Cardinals)
Pieces 58 - 60 of the Carl Yastrezemski Puzzle

 And there you have it.

I think I'm going to be laying off these for a while. They are getting too predictable and last I checked Five Below has other repacks as well. I think I'll give one of those a chance next time.
