I'm Still Here (Part 2)

This is the second post about the last card show I went to. You can read the first post here.

One of my guilty pleasures...the Monkees. I loved the show when I was a kid and I've always enjoyed the music. So when I got to the next table and saw these...

Four cards from the 1966 Donruss Monkees set...

...and ten from the 1967 set.

He wanted a dollar a piece for these cards...and that can add up very quickly. Ultimately he ended up selling them all to me for twelve dollars.

I did purchase one more item from his table.

The complete twenty-two card 1977-78 Topps Hockey glossy insert set. Once I had gotten these home and started looking at them they weren't as I remembered them.

This is how I remember them. All of the ones I pulled from packs back then had the rounded corners. What I didn't know was that they also were available with square corners...which is what I bought from the dealer. He sold me the set for 5 bucks.

So now I'm already well past my normal budget of twenty dollars and I still have one more table to post about!

  1. A lot of the Monkees music still holds up. Worth the 12 bucks for 14 Pre-Fab Four.

  2. The Monkees rule! I was destined to become a fan of them from the beginning because my dad missed a Mike Nesmith concert to witness my birth.

  3. Gotta love the Monkees! I need to get some of these cards in my collection. The one 1966 card where they're wearing suits just looks odd.

Speaking of "odd", My first reaction to the hockey glossies was "They look odd with full corners". I also pulled a number of these with rounded corners from packs back in the day, so I had the same reaction you did.

  4. Good stuff! I loved the Monkees as a kid, and still do listen to them from time to time. I'll have to try to find some of those cards one day.
